Games We’ll be Playing on Steam Deck

Valve and AMD’s innovative and convenient Steam Deck provides gamers with a powerful, handheld option to bring their favorite Steam games wherever they go.

Fans of Steam are looking forward to having their own ambitious and impressive gaming device —essentially a portable PC— that offers access to some of the best games of 2022.

This year is already an exciting one in the digital entertainment world. Some of our most compelling choices are listed below, so share the hype and try them yourself!

1. Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

Developed and published by ZA/UM, Disco Elysium is a combat-free, puzzle role-playing game. It easily hooks the player with a captivating detective story. Guide your struggling protagonist through an eerie and entrancing world, tinged with both darkness and dark humor, to solve a murder. Utilize a distinctive skill tree as your character journeys through this world, adjusting unique personality traits, and see why USGamer named Disco Elysium the Game of the Year for 2019.

2. Myst

Originally released on PC in 1993, Myst was developed by Cyan Inc. and published by Broderbund. It is a unique adventure puzzle game with no violence or combat. Beginning on the island of Myst, the player must explore the island and the adjoining Ages to solve puzzles and reveal clues to complete the game. The uniqueness comes in two parts. The first is that the game starts with almost no backstory, the player having to reveal it as he traverses the strange and complex world. The second is that there are no clear objectives or goals upon starting. Myst can be solved only with patience, observation, and problem-solving. It has been re-released on several consoles over the years, receiving positive feedback from critics and gamers each time.

3. Elden Ring

This action RPG was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Elden Ring was a collaboration with George R. R. Martin, the brilliant novelist who penned the Game of Thrones series. Guide your character through the beautiful and interactive open world of the Lands Between to discover the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord. Gamers enjoy travelling by horseback, combat with weapons and spells, and crafting weapons and items. The game received major critical praise for its open-world gameplay.

4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Project Red continues their monster-slaying action RPG series with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Well-loved and now-televised Geralt battles with hand-to-hand combat and magical powers, upgrades skills, and crafts or loots for items. The type of monsters encountered is influenced by the changing environment. For example, different or more powerful beings come out at nighttime. The game uses a dialogue tree to reply to non-playable characters with the decisions made during these interactions leading to different endings —36 possible endings, to be exact. There are mini-games within the entire adventure, including horse racing, boxing, and a card game called Gwent, which has expanded into a standalone game. As with the previous titles, Wild Hunt garners praise and positive reviews.

5. Rimworld

Created by Ludeon Studios, Rimworld is a survival strategy game that offers a sandbox option. It is a two-dimensional, top-down construction and management simulation, allowing players to experience narrative adventures, with the difficulty of each game to be determined during the scenario setup. In the very technologically-advanced future, a spaceship crashes on a distant planet, leaving survivors stranded, struggling to create a new life. The game is very customizable, each character having positive and negative traits and behaviors, hindering injuries, and a variety of learnable skills. The objective is for the colony to survive raiding tribes, powerful aliens, extreme weather and terrain, giant insects —and one another. To successfully end the game, the colonists must either build or find and repair a spaceship and return to outer space. Rimworld has maintained very positive reviews since its release in 2018. It continues to add downloadable content, as well as user-created mod options.

An impressive and compact device —less than 12 inches wide and only 1. 5 pounds— with a 7-inch LCD antiglare touchscreen and a micro SD slot for additional storage, it is understandable why fans of Steam games are so eagerly anticipating their own Steam Deck.
